Last night, Luke and I went out for a steak dinner (this is not sad, it is, in fact, happy, since I love steak and hadn't had it since school started). On our way back from dinner, we were turning left at an intersection which was mostly blocked off by police cars, ambulances, and fire trucks. In fact, you couldn't even see what had happened. Instantly, I knew that there had been a terrible accident and someone was either terribly injured or had even died at the scene. In fact, this is what happened:
10-year-old dragged 50-feet by SUV
GREELEY - The Weld County Sheriff's Office says a 10-year-old boy hit by an SUV Thursday night and dragged 50 feet was pronounced dead at Children's Hospital Friday morning.
The incident happened around 8:15 p.m. Thursday at 11th Avenue and Highway 34.
The Weld County Sheriff's Office says Estephan Chavez and a friend were walking near the crosswalk when Chavez was hit by a Suburban and dragged 50 feet. The Sheriff's Office says the other juvenile was not hit.
Chavez, of Evans, was pronounced dead at Children's Hospital in Denver at 11 a.m. on Friday.

I heard about this absolutely terrible accident at work this morning. My boss came into my Starbucks with a newspaper and she looked shaken. I asked her what had happened. Apparently, Estephan Chavez's friend who was at the accident was the son of one of the cooks in the University Kitchens, which was just across the hall in the University Center from my Starbucks. In fact, although the news hadn't reported it at that time, my boss told me the boy had died. It is terribly sad, and even though the boy was jay-walking, he was only 10. He was hardly able to enjoy life and all of it's wonders. I shall be thinking of this poor family and the boy tonight. Alright, time for more news. Many of my readers may or may not have heard about Britney Spears' comeback performance at MTV's Video Music Awards last Sunday. If you haven't seen it or heard about it, here is the performance:
Now, a lot of people, especially the tabloids, have been attacking Britney because her performance was very weak and it seems like she just doesn't give a shit and that her body was not exactly what it used to be when she was 20 years old. First of all, Britney has been through so much bullshit as a result of the tabloids, she was probably scared to death that the press would immediately rip her to pieces. Also, I have heard MTV made her change her act just before the Sunday performance. Even though she has been in the "business" since she was a child, no one can pull together an act at the caliber Britney was presenting before her marriage and children even existed with such little time, especially when the big "honchos" (MTV) decided to pull the plug on her original act. In regards to her body, I think he body looked fine, especially after having two kids. Some people say she shouldn't have worn the outfit she was wearing, but I think Britney was trying to prove that she still has an amazing body. She may not have the ripped, perfectly toned abs she had when she was younger, but she had two kids, people! I think people should just lay off Britney. She's a good person who is just falling victim to the vicious world of the press. Finally, I found this nifty little website called Breathing Earth. I urge everyone to at least look at it. I think the concept is fascinating and it really opens your eyes to life on Earth. Anyway, I'm going back home for the weekend, so I may not have internet access. If I disappear, sorry. :(
